Reducing Food Waste

Olio

In January 2022, Churchill Square proudly became the first UK shopping centre to partner with Olio.

OLIO is known for its work in tackling food waste, linking neighbours and businesses to give away rather than throw away surplus food. Since launch OLIOers worldwide have shared 35 million portions of food, which has had an environmental impact equivalent to taking 101 million car miles off the road, has saved 5.1 billion litres of water and has prevented 29k tonnes of CO2 equivalent emissions.

Currently involved within the scheme are Costa, Top Dog, Churros, Millie’s Cookies, Miniso, Boost Juice, Auntie Anne’s and Flying Tiger

Churchill Square are thrilled to announce that as the FIRST UK shopping centre to partner with OLIO, we won the 2023 Community of the Year award for the South and the Community of the Year award National Sceptre awards.

Below are the latest monthly stats of how much surplus food we have redistributed throughout Brighton.

Too Good To Go

A number of our retailers already work with Too Good to Go, which allows you to buy and collect food at a great price that hasn’t been sold in time allowing food to be eaten. Many of our retailers work with both Too Good to Go alongside Olio to ensure there is no waste.
